Henry Gomez is the immediate past Chair of the CARIBANA™ organization which he joined in 1985. In addition to serving on the Arts and Entertainment Committee, he also served two terms as Chair of this dynamic organization that has created CARIBANA™, one of the largest street festivals of its kind in the world.
Henry Gomez has dedicated his life to the arts and community service through his work in theatre, film, TV., radio, music – especially steel pan, calypso and soca, and various community organizations. He is also an award-winning recording artist.
As a founding member and the first Chair of the Calypso Association of Canada (now OCPA), he has contributed very significantly to the advancement of calypso music in Canada by establishing the organization and guiding it through its early years.
He is a retired TDSB secondary school teacher (English, Drama and Media Studies), who served with distinction and was nominated for a “Teacher of the Year” award.
Henry Gomez is also a graduate of the Faculty of Theatre (Ryerson University and York University), Faculty of English (York University) and the Faculty of Education (University of Toronto).
